The 2026 Autopsy

“The complicating fact in every populist narrative is that many people don’t want freedom or rights or any of that high-minded hippie crap: They want to be led by an awesome winner who kicks ass.”

  • Jeff Maurer

The headline for the USA TODAY November 3 issue was “Midterms Become Trump Referendum”.

As of midnight Eastern time, the result of that referendum was: Fuck Trump Up The Ass.

To repeat:

Fuck Trump.

UP.

The Ass.

Some of the races (like Alaska and Hawaii) will not yet be confirmed, and other states like California are arcane enough in their tallies that their results will not come in quickly, but at this point it’s just a question of how deep the dick is going to go in. Democrats have at least a simple majority in the US Senate and are projected to have at least 230 (out of 435) seats in the House of Representatives.

It is almost assumed now that the party not in the White House usually takes the House of Representatives in the midterms, but not by great margins and not with enough of the Senate to make much difference. But losing the Senate means, among other things, that Viceroy Trump won’t be able to make any more appointments through the Senate. That is a critical blow to the regime.

How did the Trump Party not just crash but crash so spectacularly?

Well, every answer comes down to the fact that Trump is a malignant sub-imbecile that God, in His infinite mercy and compassion, excreted upon the world in order to make it a living hell.

But let’s go over the specifics.

The reason Trump won so big in 2024 when everybody knew what it meant for our freedom and rights is the same reason he’s losing now, which is because of what Jeff Maurer said: People generally don’t want abstractions like a (small r) republican government of laws, they want an awesome winner who kicks ass. That’s why they voted for Trump over Harris. They stopped voting for his party because they soon realized that Trump is not awesome, he is not a winner, and he would rather look at asses than kick them.

The recurring point is that Trump (and his afterthought Party) went out of his way to not only break his campaign promises, but do the exact opposite of what he promised to do.

Like, lowering prices.Tariffs do not lower prices. Cutting the deficit, along with waste, fraud and abuse. Co-President Musk’s DOGE project did not cut waste, cost at least as much as it saved, and slashed aid budgets to the needy, and incidentally got a private organization in charge of all Americans’ official government records and protected health information. At the same time the official One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBuBBA) slashed spending on the poor and middle class, including hospitals, while transferring the burden of taxation to those groups and away from the country’s wealthiest interests. On that score, Trump promised to drain the swamp, and did even more to stock it than he did in his first term. Donnie finally became a real billionaire, primarily by monetizing his office and leveraging the ultra-wealthy for pay-to-play access. Which would be blatantly illegal, if Trump didn’t get to treat the US government as just another part of his business portfolio.

As for ending forever wars, the less said the better. I’m sure Benjamin Netanyahu would like to talk about that subject as little as possible. And Israel broaches another subject, the fact that the Trump coalition was held together by a rat’s nest of interests including fundamentalist pro-Zionists and rabid anti-Semites who looked at Netanyahu’s influence on Trump – along with the whole Epstein thing – and actually had some justification for their theories.

There were also issues with tactical decisions by Trump himself and by his party of servants nationwide. Republican state legislatures had already done a great deal to gin election results by making it more difficult to vote, but at the decree of Our Divine Sovereign, Texas had its legislature gerrymander the district boundaries, ignoring the whole ten-year census limitation. Other red states followed suit. So blue states, mainly California, followed suit to reduce such Republican seats at they had, since they realized that they could do the same thing if they wanted. But in this election, the real problem was that the redistricting turned into a “dummymander.” In the 2024 elections, Texas already won 25 out of 38 state House seats, but in August 2025 the legislature passed a bill giving Republicans five more majority districts. The problem with this was that it assumed the massive gains that the Trump Party gained in 2024 were permanent. The redistricting brought in neighborhoods where more Hispanics had voted for Trump than the last two elections. To expand district boundaries and get these voters, Texas had to dilute previously predominant Republican districts to get more districts that had a smaller average of die-hard conservatives. And when Trump’s new Hispanic friends saw him give ICE a bigger budget than a European military and send masked thugs accountable to no one to harass, beat, kidnap and kill Hispanics, those voters turned Republicans’ new friendly districts into enemy territory. The results speak for themselves.

Texas is one of several examples of Trump’s personal strategery sabotaging his own party’s chances. The US Senate seat up for grabs this year belonged to John Cornyn, who was a hardcore conservative and had all the popularity and advantages that came with incumbency. But every so often, he disagreed with Trump. Like, even once. That was too much for the Son of Man to tolerate. So the Texas Republicans (who are that much more retrograde than he is) foisted Ken Paxton as their nominee for Senate. Paxton is still at this moment the state’s Attorney General, despite (or because) of the fact that his wife publicly left him for his adultery, and he is enmeshed in so much financial corruption that his own Republican state house majority impeached him.
Trump refused to give an endorsement until almost the end of the primary period, but he clearly saw Ken as a kindred spirit. So the Trump Party replaced an experienced Senator who was popular with his peers with a guy who was considered skeevy even among his own party. And the Democrats nominated James Talarico, who quotes Scripture more than Texas Republicans and brings to mind no one so much as Richie Cunningham from Happy Days. Now, being a bright, articulate opponent didn’t help Beto O’Rourke when he ran against Ted Cruz, but even Ted Cruz is more sympathetic and professional than Paxton.

A similar issue occurred in South Carolina, although the main problem was outside of anyone’s control. Veteran Republican Senator (and veteran Trump ass-kisser) Lindsay Graham suddenly died. But, the Republican governor was able to appoint a replacement to serve the rest of Graham’s term until November. But at His Majesty’s request, the governor appointed Lindsay’s sister, Darline Graham Nardone, despite the fact that the only thing she has in common with her brother is that her maiden name is the same as his. And of course, religious devotion to Trump, which is the only thing that matters. The Democrat Dr. Annie Andrews was already nominated to run against Lindsay, and even before his death he was leading in the polls but not by as much as in previous races. Name reputation wasn’t enough for Darline to avoid a runoff in the party primary (where she didn’t participate in debate) and when she debated Congressman Ralph Norman for the runoff, she admitted to having just as much political expertise as you would expect a non-politician to have, saying at one point ‘national security is not my thing’. (When national security was pretty much Lindsay Graham’s wheelhouse.) She did of course say “I fully trust President Trump when it comes to the war in Iran”, which is probably why she won the nomination, and was likely a big part of why she lost this week. It’s no sin to be a woman who has no knowledge of politics, but you shouldn’t run for high office if so, and whoever puts you up to that campaign is committing political malpractice.

As Forrest Gump would say: Trump’s not a smart man, but… Well, there is no ‘but.’ He’s not a smart man.

Last time I said that Trump was almost certainly going to try in 2027 what he did in 2021. That is, whine and browbeat Republican states into fixing the vote for him, and when that doesn’t work, violence! He was having his pet Department of Justice run intimidation and legal action campaigns on California and Alaska as late as last weekend. But then various courts including the Supremes slapped him down. And then you had a win that was so devastating across the board that there was no way to rig it, especially when that requires the support of Congressmen, Senators and state officials who just lost their jobs primarily because of Trump. So it was news that even before Wednesday morning, Trump talked to journalists about the Democratic majority, saying “We’ll, you know, look forward to working with them,” the president told the newspaper in a phone interview. “We’ll probably work something out.”

Translation: Trump got slapped like the whiny little bitch he is.

Like I said, people in 2024 didn’t so much care about democracy versus fascism, but like people in the first half of the Twentieth Century, they bought into the lie that fascists are more competent and efficient than (small d) democrats. If that were ever the case it is not with the Trump regime which is that much more self-involved and devoted to grifting than Nazi Germany or Latin strongman regimes, to the extent that they actively pissed off the support base that gave them power. That’s why you have two elections in two years with such drastically different results.

Of course the reason that things oscillate so wildly keeps coming back to the point that nobody likes either faction of our ruling duopoly. And the endorsement of Democrats by the nation was not specifically because they were Democrats, it’s that the Democrats were the only party that nominated people who could still walk without knuckles. The political debate is supposed to be whether Democrats go full out socialist or whether Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries are going to take us back to pre-Trump normal, when nobody liked “normal” and that’s how we got Trump. What people want is an actual democratic political system that answers to voters instead of protecting the privileges of the politcal class. That doesn’t mean nationalizing Burger King, but it does mean shifting the tax burden back so that the government serves the majority, and investigates the people who subverted it, including and especially the donor class.

It is doubtful that the Democrats’ go-along-to-get-along establishment will get this, anymore than they did in the Biden Administration, which means the people who voted for younger Democrats are going to have to keep putting the pressure on. And in the short term, Viceroy Trump still has his pet Congress until January, so they will try cramming as much of the agenda in as they still can, like letting Samuel Alito retire from the Supreme Court so Trump can replace him with Kid Rock or Nicki Minaj.

But let’s celebrate the fact that Americans remembered that this country has more than one branch of government other than Donald Trump and the six judges who scan over the Constitution and interpet it to say “Donald Trump can do anything he wants.” And let’s look forward to 2027.
